Bigger saw

I have run a 30 inch bar on an 046, it runs ok but of course a little slow and is at the max length the oil pump can handle. I have run a 36 inch bar on the 046, it works, but even slower and I had to fit a high flow rate oil pump for that. Yes, I should use a bigger saw on the really big stuff but I rarely need more than a 25 inch bar and an oil pump was cheaper than a bigger saw :)

Cheers Logit, I'll order up a bar/chain combo. I was running an 18" bar on it the other day (I'd wrecked the 25" chain on a stone in a big Yew butt), that was awesome!!!!

A mate of mine put on a 30" bar on his ms460, let's say he soon realised the error of his ways, and I for one learnt his lesson too! 25" bars are better left for big saws, not medium saws making do

what happened with long bar? Wouldn't turn chain when fully in the cut? Clutch heat up?

How about if the depth gauges were left unfiled but cutters filed back a bit!? Still slow but cheaper than rarely used large saw.

Even better would be a skip chain and the increased flow oiler, still cheaper than a whole new saw?

Personally, I went for the bigger saw! But I do feel over equipped sometimes! Ha.
