It made me feel a bit novicey for a wile, with a whole new set of skills.

But thats the thing, you were only a novice at the climbing bit, the cutting was second nature.

I think if you are new to cutting and new to climbing, there is much more chance of an error.

I dunno using a saw in the tree or on the ground is completely different imo.

I think what's happening here is we are confusing risk with danger.

Our job is a high "risk" job, not a "dangerous" job.

It's just a case of using the wrong word :001_smile:

Does danger even exist then?

Well it is.

What do you do on the ground, cross cut and sned do you do that much while climbing?

Er............yes.............when you dismantle???????:confused1:

The saw and wood behave the same on the floor or up in the air, the forces involved are different, but thats all.

You deffo do it differently than me then :001_smile:

I cant compare the two, chogging up a tree is different from cross cutting on the ground and snedding on the ground is different from branch removal up a tree, come on, you cant compare them surely.

Unless you only plant trees with full vehicular and equipment access climbing will nver die off.

It is impossible to have access to every tree to use other methods than climbing.Infact there's very few trees a mewp can be used on and to me the more mewps are used the more accident there will be and the more HSE will realise their mistake.

We were working roadside last week and a double decker bus came ploughing through without slowing and wiped out every cone we had out, he didn't even stop (good job he didn't because I was blue with rage). That could have been a mewp leg he hit..

...and let face it, climbing is safe, why would they want to ban it :confused1: :confused1:

just remember everytime there a serious accident or death theres another nail in the climbers coffin, regards hse serious accidents and deaths in tree surgery or forrestry is away in the top 5, why do you think all these large companys and buying mewps by the bucket load it is because they know that its the way forward for the future. couple of councils have insist in the new contracts that work on street trees has to be done by mewps
