£125 for the day. Bit more than they used to charge as it's brand new. Atleast the 4wd and diff lock worked as needed it to get up the slope.

It was very quick in getting from bottom to top with a load of branches.

Must buy one some time.....

Had an avant 528 to play with today - brand new!

Coped with going up and down no trouble, and saved a huge amount of time. For the big tree I would prefer a bigger avant with more hp.

Here is a short video :

The RAMS for that job would have made an interesting read Al with the Avant running that close to the empty pool :) The only problem with introducing kit like that is the lads begin to expect it on every job and can end up a little workshy. We have a thing called a Schaffer but the cg is a lot higher than the Avant which makes it a bit unstable on rough ground , low cg is really important if you are thinking of buying something along these lines. The Schaffer has been on its side on more than one occasion.

  • 5 weeks later...

We did the humongous lawson conifer today.

Used an Avant 528 again but this time it was their older model and it coped very well going up and down the slope.

Picked up some bits that were 3ft in dia and 3.5ft long. Back wheels were almost coming off the ground!

The wood went into a 40 yard bin and chips into my 7.5t lorry.

2 days to do the job, plus a few extras.
