Cheap Chinese engine.......failed!!

Latest response from China. As much as they regret the failure of their engine they are worried that my log splitter was putting untested strain on the motor and this could of caused the malfunction. If my splitter was made to a world standard then they would have helped. WHAT A BLOODY INSULT!!!l

That's the sort of response you would expect from a cheap manufacturer

I offer you the sage advice from John Ruskin

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When

you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay

too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you

bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The

common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a

lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well

to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will

have enough to pay for something better.”

That was great for John Ruskin - he was loaded and wanted everything hand made - long term his philosphy hasn't held up - bit like saying everyone should drive a restored Bentley, lunch at the Ivy, and have their clothes made in Savile Row

Liberty the shop - took Ruskins ideals, and then manufactured goods that looked handmade - they made £££££

In the real world we need just need to buy something that works, if one engine does the job at half price of another why not?

What's needed is a reliable database of engine manufacturers and how good is their product.

Essentially a list of what warranty claims have been made

I agree but Ruskin's model doesn't say you should pay fortunes. He makes no mention of the high priced items you credit him with.

What he does say is do not pay too little.

Certainly, we need to buy things that work, this engine didn't, it was a cheap Chinese one.

You can distil Ruskin's philosophy into one simple phrase

Buy cheap buy twice.

I agree completely with you Treequip, Ruskins model is as true today as when he wrote it in the 19th century, before the rush of chinese imports.

I keep a copy on the showroom wall for the benefit of customers who think that a B&Q strimmer will be a good alternative to my Tanaka's.

I also have the other one to show to those who do not agree with me!
