Has there been a problem with new RSC chains being incorrectly ground?I was reading about RSC chains and came across this picture.I have just bought 2 new chains which look like the chain in the picture. The little hump between the cutter and raker. Thanks

That's not RSC - it's RS3.

RSC doesn't have humped drive links.

Why is the cutter so corroded ?

That picture is from the article i was reading. The chains i have bought are RSC3 but look like the chain in the picture.could not get a clear picture of my chain. Is it normal then? The article was saying that when the chain needs a sharpen the file would sit to high because of the bit that sticks up.Did not want to use the chains until i asked about what i had read. Thanks

If the file is too high there will be no hook on the side plate and the saw will need more pressure to cut.

When you sharpen these chains , use a file holder with plenty of downwards pressure first , so that the file gets down to the correct height. You can then file off the bump if there is any left , before appling backwards pressure to sharpen the cutter.

Depends how much you have to take off the tooth. Best to get a raker depth gauge. You will also find that your chain may judder in hardwood, but will fly and cut like a dream in softwood. Most pro cutters have a separate chain for both hardwood and softwood.

Don't forget to round off the leading edge of your raker when you file them, this will keep it smooth assuming corect raker depth for the wood yo are cutting.
