Best way of tackling mare's tail weed

Bought a new house which has an attached paddock.

All looked well until the dreaded weed seems to have woken. The majority of the paddock seems infested and I wonder whether anyone has any advice.

I appreciate any advice.

Kind thanks

Rob

Do you need to use / graze the paddock? could it just be mowed regulary?

iv been treating the stuff for 3 years now on 3 sites. the various chemicals that iv used have killed the top but they always put new shoots up.

iv tryed rolling them to break the straw, spraying 2 days in a row, letting it grow and spraying in autum. its still there this spring

You'll find that there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of products that will claim to get rid of Mare's Tail (Horsetail).

It is a very invasive weed that is difficult to eradicate.

I tried all sorts of treatments to get rid of it on a small patch of land.

The solution for me was to mow it regularly (twice a week in the growing season) for three years.

Problem solved.

Its now gone.

Old gardeners advice;- never let it see a Sunday. (i.e. cut it back once a week)

And . . . . don't consider letting sheep do the job.

Horsetail can be very harmful to sheep.

You've got a difficult job on your hands if you want to get rid of it completely.

Be patient; keep at it; you'll win in the end.

Been looking at some stuff called Kurtail. Supposed to be good at killing it. Anyone tried using it?

Kurtail is the same stuff as Harvest. I t certainly knocks it about but it kills everything else as well, including your grass paddock.

If that is what you want, I advise using Weedazol. That gets it very well.
