Why Jim? You after one? I have an alaskan. Not for sale though. Have you looked at Rob D from chainsaw bars videos. It is slow work relatively, A chap at seaton runs a bandsaw mill I think, at the ex dodgy skip companys yard.

Have a look in the milling section of the forum.

Yea been looking through the forum and looked at robs vids. Just wouldn't mind seeing one in action and gaining abit more knowledge from someone who has one. Thinking of getting the 36 inch alaskan of rob and putting a 30 inch bar on the 660 with granberg ripping chain. Does this seem a reasonable idea. I know kb at seaton his mills good. Just realy want sumat to mess about with in my free time. Get sum intresting looking logs that we just turn into firewood it seems a shame

Jim

We will have to sort a demo out. Time is not on my side at the moment. Maybe in a month or even two:blushing: I got mine to play with in my non existent time:001_rolleyes: Mainly done favours with it.

Definitely use a winch on long lengths. I find it ruins my back muscles if I don't.

Keep something aside. Or I may have something before long. No promises though!

With all the tourist trade and skirlington market we should find an outlet you would think.

Yea im abit pushed for time at min aswell its silly season with fences at min. How big is your mill? I have a nice lump of sycamore put to aside. If u provide the mill il provide the wood. We can split the spoils. And enough tea to sink a battle ship.

That's got to be a plan!

Chainsaw milling and sharp chain - that's the real key - it's actually quite a straight forward process... but the winch kit is a life saver after you've cut your teeth on a few logs.

Not Rob, but yes your plan will work fine but bear in mind it will give you a meximum capacity of about 24" if you take the dogs off, 22" if you leave them on. Before I had any bigger saws, I used to run a 36" bar on the 066 which worked fine, if a little slower, and gave a 28" capacity. I suggest going for Granberg chain though as it takes a bit less out of the saw.

Yes 36 inch mill. I could bring just the mill and you try your saw out. Or I can bring it with mine already in. I need to develop my side mill a bit more. Time!! The working mans elusive enemy. Whilst millions of hours are wasted in onesies watching TV all day long. Its not fair. But I'd rather be a time chaser.
