hi all, i'm looking for some hard wearing quarter sawn wood to make a table from in 1" thick boards by 7" wide and 6'+ long.

 

need about 3ft3.

 

interested in ash, hornbeam, elm, oak, or beech. must be 100% dry.

 

ash or elm preferred.

 

 

someone close would be great as i cant drive so would require delivery.

I've got ash mate, will dig through the pile later. You may have to take it in 2 or 3" though. Got some beautiful 3" X 26" ish slabs with lovely olive colour. Would you be able to resaw what you needed. Not much of it actually quarter sawn but think I could find a slab close to from center of tree. Milled about 15 years ago. Slight chance of 1 or 2 worm holes but mostly none

hi james, that sounds great, i can resaw no problem. my rip saw goes through just about anything. keep the wood as plain as you can so you can keep the olive stuff for fancier projects.

 

this table is actualy for playing skittles on so don't need beautiful boards just stable ones to keep a flat surface.

 

 

3" would also be useful for the legs, can't have any wormholes though as it won't be accepted. this is to be a prototype for masters traditional games and must be perfect. i'm creating a drawing of the product that must be collapsible so it can be sent by courier as they often go far and wide including overseas.

 

if the drawing (and possibly a scale model) is accepted then he will commission the table.

Will get some pics for you tomorrow and see how it all looks. Not been down to where it's stacked for a while. Been at a market all day so nackered now.
