Happy new year and all that

IMO networking must be a viable way forward for those of us who cannot do everything - there will be very few who can!

I agree totaly with Lee that the forum offers the chance to move forward with this (for those that want to) but can also understand Steve/Andy etc for being a bit sceptical.

I am just getting a reputation going and would be very nervous about basically subbing part of a contract, but on the other hand I could actually tender for a contract that would be beyond my resources if I could call in others to help.

We should look to set up is a system that would put everyone in a win/win situation. People must firstly be honest about what they can/cant do and only offer services that are within their capabilities/knowledge/certification/insurance. At the end of the day you can get an idea of peoples mentality etc from the forum posts and if they are full of :toilet: then news will travel fast!

How to set it up?

If people actually put there location on thier profile it would help!

Could we have a map which could link to people within a location (like a dealer map)? - would require some work :bawling:

A list of members on a skill/service base?

These could updated from user CP and actually double as advertising if available to any members of the public that may wander onto the site :icon14:

Just some thoughts

Richard.

I know its slightly off-topic, but is net-working none the less. A lot of business is done on Shoot syndicates, at the local golfclub, or join the Masons. Its not always what you know, but who you know. Its all well and good mingling with like minded souls in here, but we're all on the same level. The ones with real money are the ones to aim your business at. And they are playing golf, shooting etc.

Something like this?

http://code.google.com/apis/maps/index.html

More work for steve though (ha ha), i'm not sure whether its content is user generated but it would show the distribution of members by location and services.

With all the talk about the economic climate does this not enhance the advantages of networking to many of us?

If you are a small set up you could bring in specialist help as and when to enable you to quote for more work.

If you run a larger concern you could sub out smaller, less profitable lobs to people happy to it, and also take on extra subies as and when required without having to risk employing more staff that you may not be able to sustain in the long term.

Be interesting to hear peoples thoughts. Personally think working together when mutually benificial is the way forward.
