Climbing with a heavy saw.

Is there any good reason why you can't climb the tree without the weight of the saw and then bring it up on either the climbing rope or another taken for the purpose?

travel light and get gear passed up,, as required, ive see guys climbing with fully load harnesses no point , all you need is a silky a few spare karbs and a few bits and peices depending on what climbing system your using ,,,

On my training we were told that that's exactly what you should do. Although I suppose it depends on whether you want / need to do any work on the way up.

Good. That's what I do but didn't seem to be what some others do.

In the past I've installed a sling and pulley system and got the ground crew to pull it up, a whole lot easier.

I nearly always start climbing with the top handle attached to my harness, there's usually quite a few bits you can knock out on the way up to set your top anchor, especially on dismantles, that way up can keep the guys on the ground busy rather than have them standing there watching you climb.
