Did a member of the public see you do it and complain/call the police then?

Nope the complaint was made on the 15th of January 2014 by a chap who resigned November 2012 and the deer was dealt with in July 2012 coincidently the same chap applied for a job on the 14th but we didn't have any vacancies.. Until now ;-)

It is illegal in a public place I believe if its over 3". However its difficult if the "weapon" is in the truck so to speak and gone and got for its intention. Its hardly being carried in person. Ie if it was in your pocket 24/7 walking in the local high street you deserve to get a boot up the arse.

Police in 1 instance asked me to dispatch 1 deer when I offered as the local forestry commission would take an hour to get there for a deer that clearly wouldn't have lasted that long.

I would try and get your free 1/2 hr advice off a solicitor in this instance, afterall you have nothing to lose.

also worth knowing your car is deemed to be a public place (:001_huh:) although I think you would have to be at something dodgy for that one to be used against you

I would be asking if your possession and use of 'non company equipment' was common knowledge to your supervisors and, if so, for how long? If it was well known and they chose to ignore it, that term of your contract would be IIRC no longer binding as they have accepted the variation by course of conduct if a given period of time has elapsed (you would need to check how long). I would also be asking why they think they are better qualified to make a decision on what is or isn't an offensive weapon than the CPS.

As it was known to them at the time which by the sounds of it it was then any wrong doing should have been taken up then.

Sounds like a largish company you work for if they have HR etc. Every company should "by law" have a disciplinary procedure in writing available for any employee that ask for it. Make sure you get a copy!! It will be invaluable for you and the solicitor.
