Was thinking of getting one and was wondering if any one on here has used one and how they found it. I like the idea of the quick cycle time but open to advise if anyone knows of a different model out there for around 2k.

Thanks in advance

These were being sold on the bay for £1600 all in recently . I was tempted but heard things like " great on strait grained wood but not any good on knotty gnarly stuff " Inertia fly wheel design I think driving a rack and pinion .

Yeah there fly wheel driven and I was wondering what they would be like on knotty stuff. I know with the hydronic splitters if they can't split the log they just stop but what would happen to this as once you've pulled the leaver it's all or nothing. I'm very tempted but it's a lot of money to spend if it's not up for the job. 34t should do most logs I would think!

Ask for a demo , take your own logs . Start on a bit of syc and work up to a bit of helical grained elm

(i) 34 tonne?

(ii) A flawed design.

The rack will inevetibly (and I imagine quite quickly) get worn or chewed by the spur gear.

Or visa-versa.

They have been around for quite a while in the states

It starts off relatively slowly and accelerates to maximum speed when the con rod reaches horizontal . This is the max impact point . The pinion then disconnects with the rack for the return stroke . Least that's how I perceive it to work .
