If you can't get the saw to rev then it may be lack of fuel - a blocked gauze filter, it may be a dodgy check valve or possibly a bad air leak.

 

The accelerator pump is less likely as this generally gives an unstable idle and max revs!

 

So - my money is on the high speed section of the carb or an airleak!

 

Worth checking the fuel line isn't split as well!

Cheers Spud! I'm not doubting your expertise as I've been reading this forum for ages, but if it has an air leak, would it still rev really high steadily?

Saw hasn't been used much at all since I did the carb kit, so gauze should be spotless.

What and where is the check valve?

It depends on the airleak, slight air leaks increase revs, big ones kill high revs -a split inlet manifold will stop high revs if the split is open.

 

The check valve is the brass bit in the carb that goes from the diaphragm bowl to the inner bore.

might check the spark arrestor too…..i always start with the simple stuff,the arrestors can strangle a perfect engine….

 

There was only one type of MS200 exhaust that has a spark arrestor - I think it was a very old 020T one. Only seen one in my time doing these saws - probably unlikely to have one!

Saw24 I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread, but we've almost got the same issue. Mine seemed to run ok once warmed up, revs out seemingly ok until I try a test cut, then it dies :001_huh:

 

I've checked my H/L settings, L was set to 1 and H to 1.5 When I fire her up and connect my tachometer she's screaming at around 1400 flat out, but again it dies a death when cutting.

 

I stripped the carb the other week and everything seemed clean etc, I to seek the advice of Spud :thumbup:

 

Any tips folks, a youtube video to help on checks would be greatly appreciated. I've got a number for a local repair man but would rather learn to fix it myself if possible :001_smile:

Sounds like fuel starvation to me - possibly split fuel line, blocked fuel filter or most likely, the brass check valve is partially blocked - stick it in a decent ultrasonic cleaner or blast carb cleaner down the H screw hole and it may well clear the issue!
