Juddering saw

When I seen the title I instantly thought he's bought a 540 that husquvarna chain is terrible. It sounds like a bad chain. Stick to sthil/oregan I've used other makes and it's not worth the hassle specially to save a few quid. If not as others have suggested could be a problem with the saw

The new chain is a stihl oilamatic same as it replaced. I've checked the av mounts and they seem good. Just to add I used it once and it was good the. The second time I used it this started. I'm hoping from Graham's suggestion maybe I over tightened the chain but I'll have to wait until I've some more cutting to check this theory and I'll let you l know. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully it's not the clutch bearings

if the chain has two joins in it it will shudder or a broken tie strap,rakers to low maybe,a chrome tooth will also do this,try a different chain,if it doesn't shudder then at least you know its not the saw

Had the saw back out today and there was no juddering. Looks like I might have over tensioned the chain. Sorry for being a div

I have got oil leaking from this white cap below the filler though. Is this easily repaired or replaced. I have had a bit of a try at unscrewing it but didn't try too hard as I don't know if it is threaded or what

If it us leaking from there you have quite a serious issue...

 

Its an AV rubber, the white bit is a cover/locking plug. It can be levered out with a big screwdriver.

Its probably just leaking a little after some oil you spilled when filling it ran in there?

Clean it up and leave it for a while (overnight) on a newspaper. You'll be able to see if it actually leaks or not.

 

For comparison sake, put a single drop and a teaspoon full of chain oil on the newspaper in a different spot. It will give you an indication of how much oil it has actually lost if it does leak. Its amazing how big an area one single drop can spread to!

I'll need to have a proper look to find the leak then. It's been doing it for a while. I was storing it on an absorbent pad but now I drain it before I put it away. It just looked like it was coming from there after it had sat for a while, while I was splitting what I'd cut

He is right you know, AV rubbers:lol: possibly just a leaking cap, try turning the O ring round the other way:thumbup:
