I met a guy a few years ago who was running the bar and chain from a gyspy stick on his 200T. Mine needed a new bar so I thought I'd give this combo a try out.

 

It's a Spud ported 200T now running an 8 pin 1/4" sprocket, 12" dime tip and 1/4" chain. This could be amazing, though I'm fully aware of the possibility of snapping chains and trashing nose sprockets.

 

I really wanted the dime tip having had my 150T for over a year now, it's so manouverable in the tree and so controllable with bore cuts. Early tests are looking good, the next week will be a good test for it.

 

Stihl don't recommend this setup, and I may be barking mad trying it, but I wanted to try it myself and see how I get on.

If that works I think I'd have a go at that myself. Would be nice when it's just too much effort for the silky! Let us know how it turns out. Looks cool too, which is most important!

Cool set up - be interesting to see how that works out - I know the chainsaw carver Nick Speakman runs 1/4" chain on a quarter tip bar on a 550XP! And has not broken any chains so I'd say you'll be fine there.

 

 

When you say dime tip - it looks more like a Rollamatic E bar on there rather than a dime tip... what's the bar part number?

 

 

I may look to get some Sugihara 12"/14"/16"/18" bars with a 1/4" nose sprocket for 200 and 201s - as in theory should be a good combo and would also allow you to run longer bars on these saws...

Dime tip...I think I've got the terminology wrong there, I just meant it's a little tiny nose sprocket, compared to the usual.

 

18"on a 200 sounds an interesting combo. If you need anyone to test it out for you...

We run pretty much the same on a 192t and it's bloody awesome.

A few months on, it's still alive and nothing broken yet. This saw brings a smile to my face every time the bar cover comes off. It's a ripper.

 

It's power and cutting speed mean I'm going further into bigger wood before hauling up a bigger saw. It's certainly making life easier in the tree.

 

I may go back to having dawgs on it, I'm usually against them on top handles but cutting 2x bar length timber it would probably be worth it to hold a straighter line and reduce wrist strain.
