Like is said, I dont intend doing work which will destroy the investment! Mowing rides shouldn't do that much structural damage. If I keep with the same charge for ag and timber at 38 ish per hour do you think from your personal experiences that people would use me? Im trying to do my research on here as I respect the user's of this site immensely and their knowledge has helped me in the past.

Cheers. Thats all im trying to find out if there is enough work out there to give me the option of alternative work. I currently have a full time job and wish to better the life which I can provide my wife and baby. The info I gather from here will influence my decision hugely! Where would I advertise? If all I want to do is assist contractors then would on here suffice?

What experience of forestry do you have? The competition is huge like many others on here will tell you, for example last month we were on a job and within 3 miles there was 3 harvesters and 4 forwarders working from 3 different contractors. I think you will find it hard to go from one to the other unless you have done it all your life and have an endless list of contacts.

Not a great deal. Im a grafter though and im not scared of work. The forestry would be a boost as I hope the ag would be 75% of my work. In winter when that goes quiet im hoping to pick up a bit of other work. I have a contact who manages several large estates so hoping he can sort a bit out for me.

Find something specialist to do, run of the mill contracting is done at ridiculously cheap rates. I considered getting a side arm flail when I bought my tractor, then I discovered what the going rate was….

I was chatting to a farmer friend a couple of hours ago, he got his sowing done for £16 an acre, thats a £120k tractor and a £60k combination unit for £16 an acre!

What figures are you thinking about having a good set up going to cost you? I have recently been in a situation where I could of brought a purpose built forwarder but I just don't think the work is there and I don't want to buy a machine for it to sit around while I'm hand cutting or driving someone else's machines. I hope a contractor comes on and sheds more light on all this I just think you a taking a huge gamble and I don't think it will work to be blunt
