It is usually case of using a flat screwdriver and easing it back in to its slot - I usually wear safety specs and swear alot when doing it:001_rolleyes:

 

 

That's my preferred way too! If you get a wide bladed flat head and grind either side so it forms a T shape that fits inside the spring it makes it easier

I managed to do it by placing the whole chain break cover in a vice and using a small crow barr in the lugs, in the way that people are describing using a screw driver. The straight end of the small crow barr fitted in-between the lugs perfectly and the hook end made it easy for me to get leverage and twist the lugs to operate the chain break.
