Felling on the motorway

Been out for the day, Shotley Bridge to Bingley so joined the A1 near Darlington and a lot of the way down until we turned off at junction 61 there were trees being taken down and huge plies of chip. Saw a tractor with a grain trailer full of stems but how many 100s of tons have been felled and chipped??? And why, what's the plan??

Going too be 3 lanes soon so having to clear everything for the extension works.

They have had a johndeer forwarder with bruks chipper on the job for last few weeks.

we are chipping and mulching most of it for time.. Gonna run from barton services to leeming bar...

ATM won a small bit through A1 plus and brought Blakey in with his John deer.. Have the rest to do , Have rotten with 20" bandit on it....

Tree shear on a 13 tonner and FAE on a valtra destroying it... Still a good bit to do once all the CPO,s are granted.............

Took around 15 wagon load of timber and 5 chip wagons away.. 50 tonne pinched near Brompton on swale over xmas too..

Must be killing the firewood boys seeing 15" ash stems disappear through a chipper but not economical cutting out when working in TM

It does look such a waste, especially as hardwood is becoming so difficult to obtain. I'm glad some of it has been taken away.

The road gangs have been doing some work on the A9 in Perthshire over the past couple of months. They chip the small stuff and leave stacks of stuff which could be logged up for folk to take. After asking permission from them, I've collected enough to see us through next winter and beyond. Most of it is willow and syc, but its straight, easy to split and dries quickly and I get to play with chainsaw. Perfect.

I work on the motorways taking down tree and its criminal how much is left there. I take as much as I can when I can. Buy last week I dismantled 7 big willows and poplars and theres a fair few ton just laid down on the side of the m6 left to rot!
