OH DEAR!!

Now I see where a lot of confusion exists in the UK... The "Ton" went out along with Nelson´s eye:sneaky2:

To be precise it was fased/phased out in 1965.

Someone is losing money here...1 TONNE is 1000Kgs. There is no extra/missing 16Kgs.

Regarding the original post:

I think you need to clarify, for the benefit of other posters; when you say ´Wholesale´ I take it you mean " for sale to other traders" and NOT " bulk sales to the public" ?

A Ton is an imperial measurement of 2240 lbs (1016kg)

A Tonne is a metric measurement of 1000 kgs

I didn't write Tonne so I'm pretty sure thats the missing 16kg you didnt understand. some of us still measure in inches instead of cm too.

That is just twaddle!

You can sell firewood by weight or volume.

You can sell it by the truckload; sackload; builders bagload or in an old ladies shoe . . . . . . . . just as long as what you are selling is just what you have described.

You're right, you can sell it by weight or volume, but I have read on a number of websites that due to the moisture content of wood, it is not permissible to sell firewood by weight.

Logsnstuff, I am also one who was taught imperial measures at school, but when it comes to firewood you can´t afford to do your numbers in "old empire" equations.

I´m sure no one sells trees by the imperial ´Ton´ (infact it is illegal) so if you then begin to convert your perceived 1016Kgs into metric measurements, either kilograms or cubic metres, you will most certainly lose 16Kgs out of your pocket every time.

We keep it simple , double cab Hi Lux pick up load fresh hard wood , just above the level of the load area + £120 delivered local , no complaints .

The only person I season wood for is me .

That is really good rate. I get £80 for my single cab hilux heaped and seasoned, all arb waste nothing bought in but £80 is the max I can get. Im out in the middle of the country tho selling to true county folk.

these days the lorries halve weigh systems fitted and they only seem to measure half tons if you look at the weigh tickets only ever read 25 25.5 or 26 ton so 16kg 50kg 200kg doesnt matter and logs are sold on volume not weight and in the uk or certainly round here you can still buy in imperial go tescos price tickets have both weights uk had an exemption about selling imperial as long as metric price is also included.
