Hi bud,

I normally hire one once I've got a few requests to remove stumps I normally hire for a day or two to get through jobs. Same with chipping, one day hopefully I'll have my own but for now this is how I get through. Sorry it's not really answering your original question. But it works for me.

Aiden,

For us a stump grinder is a serious revenue earner and an important add on sale to any felling work.

As for pricing it, work out your costs, fuel, teefff, belts and machine life etc and arrive at a sum you add to your normal hourly rate THEN add your profit margin which is anything you can get in my opinion.

Regards

Ty

It allows you to offer a full service and I recon it's a lt less competitive.

I honestly can't remember the last time I didn't get a grinding job I bid for.

Start with a machine that will get into small access gardens so you can do the jobs some others can't. Then as you grow, get a bigger machine for accessible monster stumps.

You can make big bucks grinding, less waste to get rid of and you only need 1 or 2 working on the team.

If you've got the spare cash go for it. I don't get much work from it but allows me to be a lot more competitive on a dismantle and grind than I would otherwise, but also gives me the flexibility of not having to pick it up and drop it off from hire shops. If you've got the spare cash go for it. They can be a pita though with bearings, engines, teeth, belts etc, make sure you don't price to low!

I would probably be looking at getting a second hand machine that can get though small access to start with. What sort of money am I looking at spending to get a fairly stump grinder and would it be worth ringing up local tree surgeons about doing any grinding work that they might not offer.
