Cheap chainsaws on ebay

look real close, i bought a saw of ebay, could see the burnt guidebar, guy said he'd had it for a year and now it won't cut - looked like he'd never sharpened the chain! paid £65, got a nearly new saw, put on a new bar and chain, still using it today!

I think Tommy is looking at the cheap Chinese saws not second hand. I've read of people buying them for yard cutting and having no problems and others who have had bits breaking off and parts failing with no support or repairs back up. There are a few now like Mitox which are being built to a better standard with a spares network to support them.

I had one of the cheap chinese saws and to be fair it did run, cut and do everything I needed it to for a year ..

But the vibration mounts quickly turned to dust, the fuel caps broke, lots of little niggly wee problems ..

The engine was perfectly fine though.

But then one day I was using it and noticed that the chain brake handle had a nice crack right along it and it wouldn't engage

i have 2

2500 - 10"bar 25cc top handle

5200 - 20" bar 52cc

top handle is used regularly and i like it for size and weight.

5200 is common as muck and parts available on ebay.

few issues with pull cord springs, tuning needles move with vibration but cheap to fix with parts from ebay.

Cut loads of wood with them and paid for over and over.

I did think about replacing with a stihl but it keeps going.

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought a tools chainsaw supplied with a 20" bar and 1 chain and a 24" bar and 2 chains for £120 off amazon I am not a tree surgeon or anything like it merely a firewood scavenger but I have not had a problem with the saw at all and I have chopped up some big beech and ash trees with it I am not saying it's as good as the saws the pros use but for the money I paid it has paid for itself 10 times over
