  4. Hi guys, For those of you's who sell firewood how much do you charge for a 45cm x 60cm net sack of hardwood mixed ? I have a guy 2 miles from me selling them for £3 each is that a good price?

Hi guys, I have often read and been told that alder is a poor firewood so I have always avoided it but a mate of mine handed some In the other night and I can honestly say everything I have read and been told is utter nonsense it burns long and hot with good flames boils the kettle in no time at all and leaves an excellent coal bed. give it a go you will be pleasantly surprised
  6. I think its £120 up my way for pick up load but I think that was for a mix of hardwood and softwood
  7. Not so good seasoning weather over the last few days hardtop do you keep your stacks under cover ?
  8. I am in west lothian but have been working up in perth for the last week had some fine weather for seasoning. What timber have you got stacked ?
  9. I was having a look at a stack of alder and ash I have and could not believe the splits that have appeared over the last week I am in central Scotland and its blowing a gale right now but pretty mild bring it on I say
  10. I have 3 cords stacked on pallets and just keep an eye on the weather if its going to be really wet icover them with goretex and when it dries up I take the covers off seems to work for me

  13. Thats only its temp location it is getting moved to my own garden once I clear the lig piles I have here using my uncles garden for splitting but thanks for the advice

  17. Hi new to this firewood game (recently had a stove fitted) but already seem to be developing an addiction haha how do you identify alder ? Me and the old man have been having a bit of a heated discussion about this I say its alder he says its ash any obvious marks or colours on either species which would settle this ?
  18. I have a fair amount of ash and beech ready to be stacked my question is if I was to fill net sacks then pile them up on pallets with a tarp over the top not covering the sides or front and back would it season just as well without being in the sacks ?

  20. I recently bought the fiskars x27 it is a bit more expensive than your average maul but the difference in performance is far superior

I bought a tools chainsaw supplied with a 20" bar and 1 chain and a 24" bar and 2 chains for £120 off amazon I am not a tree surgeon or anything like it merely a firewood scavenger but I have not had a problem with the saw at all and I have chopped up some big beech and ash trees with it I am not saying it's as good as the saws the pros use but for the money I paid it has paid for itself 10 times over
  22. My fault I meant 95cm not 950 getting mixed up between cm and mm apologies but thanks for your replys guys the tree should save us a good bit of cash
