395 noticeably has more power .. I sold a 288 as I stopped using it when I got the 395.

The 288 was superseded by the 390.

If it was solely for in tree use though I would possibly choose the 390.

I thought the 385 was superseded by the 390 ?

That is correct, the 385 superseded the 288! And fwiw I don't notice much power difference between the 385 and the 394! The power difference is actually minuscule! .1 kW really isn't a huge increase.

In my eyes it would boil down to the length of bar your wanting to take up a tree..

Eddy do you find that little a difference between the 385 and 394? Both mine are ported but the 394 wins everytime in the bigger stuff despite having a 4" longer bar.

I find them disappointingly indifferent, and whilst the 394 may have more power, it would only be in larger wood when it's dogged in for torque, but I prefer the 385 design, the brake handle, inboard clutch and it's lighter. My 385 is on a 36" bar, the 394 is on a 28" and has excellent compression, I reckon my 385 would still outcut the works 394

I have to agree regarding the design on the 385/390.

Ive got 24's on the 385 and 390, 28 on the 394 and 36 on the 395.

In standard form the 390 is louder than the 395 - due to the 395 restrictive exhaust and where the uk version loses power to the American model. The only difference is the exhaust and thats quoted as being 1/2hp more hence good gains on the 395 just by muffler mods.

Interesting WYK, the later models of both saws on your scales are said to weigh approx. 1 ib less according to huskys figures. Not sure quite how they come to that given the only difference between the 385 and 390 is a 1mm bigger piston and dual transfer ports.

Not sure what you mean there, does the 390 not have dual transfers?

Sorry didn't word that well.

The dual transfers are ported differently timing wise compared to the 385.

The nice thing is the 362/365/372/385 and 390 is they all use the same muffler :thumbup1: hence why I always have a spare modded muffler.

They all respond well to a dual port muffler and 385 enjoys the inlet charge a little earlier :sneaky2:
