Finally got my new rope to go with the zigzag but it seams very soft just below the spliced eye, can anyone tell me if this is normal? The second pic is farther down the rope.

Nope, as far as I know the rope should be thicker than normal for the length of the bury.

The first pic looks like there is no core only sheath,

Is that a toilet roll holder in the back ground?

grab the rope in your hand and squeeze it tight, feel the thickness as your slide your hand along it. It should taper away smoothly and then become the same thickness as the rest of the rope. If it tapers away, then goes thinner than the rest of the rope and then back up to normal thickness it could be a dodgey splice. Under load you might be able to feel it better.

If you are still unsure, show it to a experienced hand splicer near you. If you feel its dodgey and so do they, just cut it off and resplice. Its not worth having it in the back of your mind 50ft up in the air when you are about to snatch a top :)

Agrimog- a kernmantle splice looks very different to a double braid splice.. And yep, need to see more of the rope but if in doubt, send it back to confirm
