The Canadians have been struggling with same issues regarding Quebec. Seems like the same story either side of the Atlantic.

I will probably vote yes, but (and here's one to ponder for a minute) I would probably vote no if there was an English Assembly. Every other country in the UK has one. Why not England? Why do the english accept non english MPs voting on english only issues? If I was english I would find it morally repugnant.

 

What would be fascinating would be to see how many english would vote for scottish independence.

So a " United Kingdom " is ruled by an English pound and not a "United Kingdom pound" which would include, wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland?

The whole point as I see it is that, if Scotland votes for independence, it will be a moot point as to whether the pound is a UK pound or an English pound as Scotland won't be a part of the UK anyway.

Exactly, so if Scotland isn't a part of the UK then they won't qualify to need the UK pound. The salient point is surely that.

As a proud Scotsman living in Scotland I think I qualify to say Alex Salmond is a neep! Sooner the country votes no to this silly dream the better.

Quite the opposite, there is no rule to say that you need to be part of the UK to have the pound sterling. The disunited kingdom could choose to share it with Scotland if it suited both parties. I'm not saying whther it would or not, I'm just saying it would bne allowed to.

 

Some coutries that are in Europe aren't in the european currency union, some are. It's the same idea.

Only a small part in my reason for voting no. I live 20 mins from the oil capital of Europe Aberdeen yet in 50 years time it will be a ghost town once "OUR" oil runs out. Where will that leave an independent scotland.
