Here's an update, green wood at the back, seasoned at the front.

Are the bays open at the front, if so the logs should be stacked pointing to the stone wall behind. Or anyway you want. I can get a bit ocd about stacking wood. If the bays aren't open at the front how do you get the logs out?

You need at least 2 bays, once you have used your seasoned wood you need to fill that bay up with fresh logs and leave to dry. Otherwise you will spend more time moving logs than cutting them.

Try my idea mate I built these with wood I had left over from a job

The bay at the back is green wood which will take a year to dry. The front bay i will use as an overflow for the smaller log store i have near the house, these logs are supplied by a local friend ready seasoned.

The green wood i am cutting and splitting myself, its from a goat willow at the bottom of the garden.

I had a piece of pond liner covering my wood pile but it kept filling up with water (clue is in the name I suppose) so I was donated a roof sheet this week and fitted that instead. It looks better now and don't have to keep tipping it out.

that roof sheet you picked up as a freebie is worth a few quid the ebayer,s go bonkers for them lucky for you having a decent friend etc

 

mines made from s/h big six roof sheets 99p for the full roof lol and telephone poles £30 ea but cut in half =2 they make cracking supports and the actual bolts from screwfix cost more than the materials
