My first crane job

i have yet to attempt a crane job but definately looks enjoyable, surly some of those trees would have sat upright after the weight in the top is removed ??? how do you overcome that aspect of the dismantle apart from pray?

I think Paul is referring to the risk of being thrown about if the stem stands back up after the tops removed.

 

You just need to be ready if it does.

Ah my mistake.

You could tether the stem down with a winch. Hope that's a bit more useful

cheers skyhuck you got my gist, one lad commented on removing about one and half ton at a time which reminds me of topping out a scots pine, the top had grown over in a horozontal postion, i cut the branch that had loads of tension lleft me swinging around, got the adrenalin pumping

noice work. problem with crane jobs is unless your doing the 'climb' and cutting for the crane it can be incredibly boring.

Ive had a few windblown douglas fir that have sat up once we start removing the crown. The first time it was exciting, took the visor off my helmet!

since then ive learnt to jump faster!

Would usually take the root ball off first but sometimes they are so jumbled up in a mess its not so easy
