Slewing Torque of Timber Cranes??

I am comparing forwarding trailer cranes,so please can you tell me the significance of the "slewing torque" of cranes.For instance the Kesla 204t and 303 cranes are almost identical in spec except for slewing torque (204t 8,0kNm. 303 13.5kNm). Thankyou for any input as many pounds£ at stake.

Get the most torque you can! If you only ever use your trailer on very flat ground it makes no difference, however if you pick timber up on the downhill side of a leaning trailer (and it doesn't need to be leaning a lot) it requires a lot of torque to twist all that mass back

That is a good point,it takes alot more torque to swing up hill,and it doesnt take much to become a hill:biggrin:

+1 - you'll always run out of torque before lift.

Thank you for the information,all makes good sense. I can start to see why there is around £4000 price difference between Kesla204T and 303 even though they have same lifting capacity. I will pay more attention to slewing torque when comparing other cranes. Cheaper to get the machine strong enough for the job at the start,even though financially painful.
