LOLER Inspectors. Petzl Sequoia Harness?

The new Petzl sequoia's gold rings have small screws to allow replacement of the main bridge, or for attaching swivels etc to the bridge. Manufacturers guidelines state that the small screws must be put in to a certain torque rating and put in with Lock-tite. Do you, or would you have the means to check the torque rating of the screws on a Loler check? If so, would your torque wrench also have to be checked to assure callobration???

Can't be done Darren, once a screw has had loctite placed on the thread and tightened, you can't tell what torque has been applied after the loctite has set.

 

Even if the screw was put in finger tight, once the loctite has set it will take a lot more torque to break the loctite

Ah ha, cheers Dean. So the only way that would come in to the equation would be for the inspector to screw it in him self to the correct torque and then be able to pass the harness.

Yes thats it and also provided he uses the correct grade of loctite

i just bought the sequioa and when i got it home i noticed the bridge had been put on twisted, so had to undo one of the rings. it came off surprisingly easy, does anyone know if they come already loctited(is thats a word)?

It wont be a high grade of loctite steve, it will only be like a screw grade which is fairly easy to undo. If you look closely at the thread you may be able to see some gunk on them.

usually you can see the end of the screw and can tell if it has loctite on or if it has been undone

never noticed on the sequoia tbh but will have a look next time i see one

You've just made me wanna go and double check mine now. I'm after putting a second bridge onto them anyway so what grade loctite would anyone recommend, also where do I get it from? Never really heard of the stuff unless mentioned with sequoia harnesses.

I use loctite 221 for most small screwws that I want to get undone again.

 

It is a low strength loctite design to lock threads stopping them working loose but enabling you to undo the screw in future.

 

If you call in at an engineering supplies place, let them know what you are wanting to do and explain what it's on a harness that you may need to undo to replace parts, they will look the correct grade up on a spec sheet for you.
