I wonder how much is going for biomass? I was passing harewood estate at leeds and noticed approx 100 tonnes of hardwood stacked up, a rang to make an offer and they told me it was all going for biomass, if this is happening everywhere firewood sellers will struggle, I can only imagine how many tonnes of firewood it would take to run a power station.:confused1:

Round Leeds way, woodlands as small as 5 acres are getting thinned out, as long as you can fill an arctic with chip, or a lorry with roundwood, their is a buyer. (Cant name as I'm currently negotiating to buy timber wood from) but near harrogate, one farmer has been offered £18 a ton standing for clearfel and £28 if its stacked for collection, and thats a scraggy wood of mixed birch and alder, few sycamores and goat willow.

I thikn the company was stobarts, and the spec was the lot to be chipped into a wagon... Currently the wood is to be thinned of the crap and dragged to the edge, chipped into a wagon and gone...

I think Bramham Park has done similar to harewood as well - it makes sense for them, prices are good and its a singe buyer, doing all the work and paying in one go.

That's probably one of the main reasons for the shortage, if I could sell all my firewood to one person for a cut down price it makes my job a lot easier, unfortunately.
