Hi a quick question are McCullochs particular about their two stroke mix I put 50/1 mix in and it smokes and lacks power. Or could it be something else. Cheers

50 : 1 is right as long as you are using a top quality oil . Don,t use the cheap garden center stuff . . Sounds like something else though . Where is the smoke coming from ? Exhaust or clutch ?

Exhaust the mix had a witham two stroke oil in it

OK . Sure you got the ratio right ? try the same stuff in another saw that you know is fine and see if that smokes the same . If not you have another problem . Check that the air filter is clean and the choke is coming off fully . Check the color of the spark plug ( should be a light tan color ) if its dark and sooty its running rich for what ever reason . Carb problem then .

The smoke will either be from too much oil or the saw running too rich. If after you have sorted the oil, it still smokes, look at the spark plug and see what colour the electrodes are!

Most saws smoke from stone cold, it is just the oil not burning off but will clear when the saw gets warm!

I've run 50:1 mix in my Mac125's with no problems. But I use either Stihl ultra or Husky XP full synthetic oil and ethanol free 92 octane fuel. I've run this in my Mac super 250, 700, and 800 as well. The 125's have made over 60 full cuts using a 50" bar in maple, oak, fir, and cedar with no issues.

Are you mixing at 50 parts to 1, i.e. 20mls to a litre, or 50mls to a litre which would actually be 20 parts to one.

Forgive me if you think i'm making you out to be a thicko, i'm not, but it's not an uncommon fault for those who don't work with this stuff on a very regular basis, and the symptoms are classic.
