Best internet setup

I'm setting up in a new house soon and I've been thinking about the best way of having internet connection. My current idea is to have no landline, just a mobile phone and connect to my mobile via bluetooth (which is in built in my laptop). This way I would not need a landline (and line rental charge) which are of limited use when I'm out and about most of the time. It would also allow me to connect to the net anywhere provided I had enough battery in my mobile.

Any tech guru's out there that thinks this is a good idea or is there a better way around it?

get one of them 3 pay dongles.. take your lap top anywhere then.........

then get a inverter put into your van/truck or car and your battery will never go flat

i have a tmobile mobile broadband dongle, its ok, but certainly wouldnt want to be using it all the time as it can be painfully slow in some areas.....pot luck wether or not your neighbour has their network secured...heres a thought though, offer to go halves with them on the internet bill in exchange for their password?

haha and then just never pay em. Seriously though, lets not be cheap skates. Ive got homeplugs all round, including on the Xbox360 and the Wii and connection is constant and really fast. Bout £80 quid for set of 2 and then you can add more, worth every pound. Just depends on whate rate you get from your local exchange. If I build a house it will be fibre optic all the way to the suppliers :tongue_smilie:

So its between a dongle or a wireless router through landline. Its naughty to use other people's connection but its rather slack to not secure your network. Going halves is an idea.

Are these dongle things very much slower than land line broadband? I know they have download limits but I don't download much more than a few pdf files

Unless you are miles from the exchange then dont bother with mobile internet, get a landline. The download speeds on fixed line broadband are massively faster than mobile, and the mobile stuff is at the moment beset with problems such as signal drop off and fair usage policies which are much lower than landline connections. Get a netgear wireless router DG834pn. Netgear are the most reliable and versatile net stuff there is, and their routers are REALLY easy to use and allow wireless and 4 wired connections.:001_smile:Going halves is a great idea, as long as you trust your neighbour not to blame you when the hours of dodgy porn come up on the bill!!LOL
