This isn't good, almost four hundred views and only walnut, fig, magnolia, kiwi? and brussel sprout tree eliminated:lol::lol::lol::lol: Anyone who does know, feel free to PM me, I'll let this run a while longer.

I'm really surprised as I thought this would be easy, being as distinctive as it is. It's probably more common in the south and comes from a genus of 6-17 species only.

If it has big leaves I think I might know.

Is it a Paulownia?

Congrat's, I suspect Bearded Munch identified it which gave Rover the final clue. Terrifically big leaves on this, I think the bud is a leaf bud because the flowers come later. It was the first I'd ever seen.

No prizes I'm afraid, but something new learnt:thumbup:

Good, could you confirm that in my pictures its a flower bud present. The pic's about four weeks old and didn't take as much notice of what was what when I dismantled it. :blushing:

Mine has never flowered as its still little and is not likely to ever do so either as it'll be a pollard and I think they don't flower when pollarded.

One thing I do know is that in a Chinese tradition one would be planted at the birth of a girl, to be chopped down and made into small items of craft-work like jewellery boxes etc when the girl would get married.

That's a shame, I didn't see this in flower when I first went to the property. It was protected, being in a CA, and the TO was upset to agree it's removal. We left it as a two foot stump hoping it will coppice - time will tell, but it shouldn't flower again from what I've read or been told. The leaves are huge and should be bigger still if it reshoots, so I'll have to look in next year.

I read that about the tradition and aren't surprised, as it's really quick growing. maybe someone else could answer my question:confused1:
