Tree in France

I live in South Carolina, USA. I recently saw a beautiful tree in red

Fall foliage on a TV program; it is in Lorie, France. I was able to take

2 photos from the television to aid me in identifying it. One shows its

overall form, the other shows a leaf closeup.

I asked tree experts at nearby Clemson University, and their best guess

in a Black Gum, although several suggested it may be a European

specie unknown to them. The logical person to ask would

be someone in France, but I don't speak the language.

I have two opinions from the UK: Elm and Persian Ironwood.

Can anyone identify this tree?

Thank you,

Don

Who am I to disagree, but...

the leaf structure of those in the fuzzy picture taken from TV and those of published pictures are quite a bit different. There is far more texture and serration to the leaf in published form, where my picture shows a more persimmon or tupelo like character.
