Does this mean that I would pay you (someone I have never met). 50% of the price of the container before you have clapped eyes on it. Or at least been on the UK docks.

Correct. Do you think i am going to send a full container of firewood to someone i have never met without any deposit ! Welcome to buying containers of firewood ! This is normal trade practise, in fact if you want to save yourself some money buy direct from the Baltics and just pray your container does arrive and has in it what you think you have paid for. I will happily give you references of UK firewood merchants who buy containers from me every week if you are a serious buyer.

Yes you will pay a small premium buying from me but you will after your first container only pay on receipt of goods unlike most, you will get the chance of a sample pallet and yes you will deal with a UK company and speak only to people whose first language is English.

Forestry are you dealing direct with a sawmill in the Baltics or buying off of a company importing to the UK?

I have been importing from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia for over 5 years and only now do i have the quality right, it has been a long hard slog having had containers not appear, mouldy wood, conifer mixed in and every other problem you could imagine. I now have 1 main supplier who also sources and quality controls my shipments. I have a good working relationship with them and i visit them in the Baltics on a regular basis, likewise they visit us in the UK as business partners and friends.

@eggsarascal, to be fair the real firewood company have the ability to take credit cards which most importers say they do not have the ability to do, I'm sure some one will correct me if I am wrong but that will give you a decent level of protection.

@forestry if you have the perfect wood from your friends in plentiful enough amounts that you can advertise on here why were you buying from Green Delta?

The reason I bought from Green Delta was this was a new area for potential supply and was not tied directly to the euro. I do not solely import from 1 country, eggs in 1 basket and all that ! To be honest, Bosnia has the potential to supply huge amounts into the UK, however not dissimilar to the Baltics, dealing with Bosnians will prove trying ! The first shipment that came to us from Bosnia was the first imported wood from that region since the Royal Navy stopped to re-mast their ships !
