atlantic cedar

I’ve been asked to quote to fell a 90 foot cedar, that's not the problem, here is a few question for members that I could do with a little help from

1: does any one have a planking mill to cut and plank this 40" dia beast up with?

2: Is it only fit for fire wood?

3: if it was cut up is it ok for farm fencing (out side use in fields)? Will it last?

4: would any saw mill buy it of me?

I can get a lorry in to move the large butts.

Any thought or suggestions would be appreciated.

my personal feelings are that a tree should never go to fire wood if it can be planked.

cedar makes great lumber but is not in fashion so sawmills might not want it, you'll have to phone around to see.

see the bottom of the first page of this thread to see what good furniture timber it is.

someone should be able to help with the chainsaw.

Nearly everything can be milled mate even if the tree was 500yards from a road and u only have a small gate to go through

It just a Q of how long it will take to mill

And as for the size if u have a big enough bar on a Alaskan mill u can mill 72inch wide boards witch makes ur bit of timber look small
