ideas for storing split logs

Why? each crate comes with a tank that will make two lids. I have trouble getting rid of our spare tanks just giving them away. Or do you manage to get paid for the spares

I use the lids on our vented bags as well and we have dozens of bags of 6in blanks waiting to be put through the kindlet.

Sometimes by hand or like this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/64594-low-tech-ibc-tipper.html I do like unloading by hand as you can separate any processor waste but it depends how much time I have and how big the logs are.

How long do they last?

I have had a few where the base rotted out but they where awful when I got them. Not had a good one show any signs of deterioration but I have only had them 2 or 3 years. The feet sometimes need fixing if your a bit rough with them :001_rolleyes:

Thanks for the link. That's just what I was hoping but was told yesterday that they won't last long if I tip them.

I just need to sort some forks out for the old David Brown and we are good. I see you put chicken wire inside the cage too. I was hoping it wouldn't be needed but I suppose the logs will tip out easier with it.

Not sure on the chicken wire. I now don't use it for any of the larger log sizes ie <10". Any logs that fall out during seasoning I just post back into the crate. It is good for the smaller sizes but I would zip tie it in carefully or it tries to slide out when you tip the logs. I don't think tipping the crate onto a hay bale is going to do them much harm but I have only just started doing this so don't know for sure.
