I’ve a question on public liability insurance; I’ve been offered the use of a piece of land for storing cord (25 – 50 ton ish), the only condition is that I have public liability insurance, basically to provide cover from someone climbing on the pile and hurting themselves.

It’s not a commercial operation, just for domestic use. I’ve tried a couple of brokers, but I’ve been told that it’s not possible to get the insurance as it’s not a commercial business. Also been told that it would be the land owners insurance that would be claimed against, which may be true, but doesn’t help as the owner still insists that I have my own cover……any thoughts?

Thanks

This shouldn't be a real issue to organise, I would have thought any of the usual trade brokers should be able to assist even though it's not a commercial venture. The only issue is that you may have to buy an annual policy.

The land owner probably wants you to arrange Public Liability insurance so that in the event you cause damge to third party property or someone gets injured they wont have to deal with the claim.

The land owner, if they are gaining rental income must carry their own public liability insurance in case you fall down a disused 20th century well or mineshaft or fall over a broken style or get a gate swing into you because it was incorrectly hung or slip on some wet cement when it was supposed to be grass instead of grass covered cement.

Hopefully you get the drift.

Give Trust a call 01604 492644 ask for Cameron. Excellent service and they know what they are talking about. I have been with them 9 years and have had cheaper quotes but not the same policy or service.
