Stilts

I got some 2nd hand stilts a couple of months ago, with the idea of using them to prune fruit trees. I was inspired by an image on google of a couple of guys with 12foot stilts working in an orchard. Got the chance to have a go today and they were great! Much quicker than moving ladders and all the up and down. You can get right inside the tree.

Does anyone else use them?

I've got a set of power risers (the ones you can run and bounce etc), keep looking at them and thinking they would be ace for both crown lifts and ceiling painting...

When i was in the building trade and plasterers were on site, a few of them used stilts to do ceilings.A lot easier than building up the floor with milk crates and board.They rattled through it.

They did say it was a long way to fall if it did go wrong and you were likely to break a collar bone or wrist.

the articulated ones look pretty easy to balance on

Yeah they're the ones, the plasterers ones are really stable, they were ok on soft ground but i'd be nervous on paving etc. they say if you fall, try and land on your knees and sit right back onto your calves so the stilts hit first. its quite hard to see how even the ground is when you're above, but i think the trick is to be confident with your steps.

They are ace, tho getting up without leaning on something requires Olympic gymnastics. You can get some serious speed on them to.

I've used the plasterers ones trimming a hedge before was going well until I fell over, took me ages to get back up

I've got my plastering ones and thought about using them, they're very stable. You wouldn't want to fall on your hedge trimmer though, chuck it if you start to go!

although the springy ones look to be more fun with of course a hedge trimmer for hedges! I have worked with someone using similar to plasterers stilts with great success
