M8 x 25mm chipper blade bolts needed asap

I have some mangled torxs type chipper blade bolts ( M8x25mm ) and need some replacements for monday morning. Too late to try Greenmech directly but found some on screwfix's website...

 

Apart from being allen key type they are also Stainless steel and seem cheap....

 

guessing not upto the job?

If desperate. Get some cheaper ones and as soon as you can get the right ones.

Check the heads of any remaining - they are likely to have 8.8 stamped in, probably somewhere around the rim. If they do, don't use cheaper ones without this stamped on, and certainly don't use the stainless ones. 8.8 is high tensile steel, mild steel (bzp or plain) or stainless ones are likely to shear off and cause you more grief in a very short time than waiting.

Im in Suffolk near Felixstowe.

 

Last time I changed the blades i used mostly new bolts, the last owner had bought in bulk and warned me that they are likely to mangle when undoing.

 

I thought i had more spares than i did for this change but seems not, bad organisation!

I'm with Alec on this one, your gonna be spinning very sharp bits of metal very quickly, you want hardened bolts, surely there's a fixtures and fastenings place near to where you live?

Too far over for me to know anywhere I'm afraid (I'm right on the western edge of Suffolk, which is at the bottom of my garden). If you were over my way I would say Glenwood in Linton.

 

Not sure on the layout, but one way out of the hole may be to substitute standard high tensile socket head cap screws or even bolts? These may be easier to lay your hands on in a hurry than the torx ones?

don't use stainless steel for chipper blades the tensile strength is far too low try your local cat dealer they have a hardware catalogue you might get some in there

On a green mech, if they are the ones I'm thinking off the won't work. The ones that fit on a green mech need to be flush with the fixing as they are close to rubbing edges. Like the blade bolts or the rollers bolts. A pretruding head will catch and cause one hell of a mess.

 

Too far for me aswell or I would look in the workshop as there are bags and bags of nuts and bolts.

Worse case will be buying some money morning and a quick refit before the first job of the day. I had my doubts about the stainless so thanks for confirming my thoughts
