I think a lot depends on your natural climbing style as to whether you get on with one or not.

Agree with that, a lot of people seem to get hooked on the shiny sexiness and think it's the pinnacle of climbing tools, fact is it's just a tool and no better than any other tool, it all depends on you as a climber.

As far as tools go you will have to prise the hitchclimber out of my cold dead hands:001_tt2:

Don't get me wrong I love using my hitchclimber, just looking to make life easier when I'm up in the canopy all day long. Would be great to try before I buy.

We are at Wellington just off the m5 junction 26.

That still seems pretty far for me to go. I will be on some training down Exeter mid November so might pm you closer to the time.

Surely not all tools are equal, some tools are much better than others.

love mine. The self tending makes an easy job of tackling big leggy stuff. Still use a HC for small/scraggy stuff as the SJ isnt suited for that. I do a lot of maintenance on big london planes and it has definitely made climbing them easier and more enjoyable. A friction saver and thin line are essential to get the most out of it so it can get expensive!!!!

If you want to make your life easier the hitchclimber is perfectly suitable for that, also look to SRT even if it's just for access.

I feel some tools are better at doing some things, and that no tools yet exists that is good at all that's pretty much universal.
