I'm not referring to the above incident specifically but in general.

It's usually always a very an emotive issue.

It can and does remind friends and families of where and why their loved ones got maimed or passed away.

Btw, I'm not advocating this approach particularly, but I know of instances where this has occurred.

On one particular occasion a fatality occurred during a head on collision with a willow and the stem really only sustained a relatively small amount of bark damage by the car with no specific structural issues, but it was still removed.

Hmmm I'm not sure I agree 100% with this. I can recount many many roadside trees that have been struck around this area, they become an almost timeless memorial to a lost loved one. Bouquets and ribbons, toys and plaques appear, to be updated yearly in memoriam. Maybe it's a "town" thing to take out the tree? I like to see the living memorials to accident victims, personally.

Reported in HortWeek

Police called to scene to break up a scuffle between contractor and a local resident over the removal of 'unsafe' trees

Sounds as if more consultation and site security could have been improved upon.

The HOW is a big question, too. Parts of China that I saw had some very different methods of pruning and planting and...a lot of 'ing's.

David as much as i wanted to see who was in that band, the link didn't work for me. :(
