advice for a noobie chainsaw user

im not sure how hard it is to open after a run... i never use it long enough to use a full tank.

i will do tomorrow morning tho, im off to a forest to cut up and collect some downed beech trees

ok.. i stand corrected, this downed tree was an ash tree, it was just one branch had split off, this branch was huge...

 

the saw worked perfectly all day, it only stalled once, it was low on fuel.

 

even tho this branch at its biggest point was 18" diameter, the saw cut without issues and we had it cut up in about 1 hour into 3 foot lengths.

now my wood pile is looking better i could not get anymore wood in my car .

 

 

this is just a small part of this huge branch, it was split between 3 of us and there is more for me to pickup if i run low.

 

i had the saw cutting full length of the bar and it was cutting well, did not bog down and the cuts where nice and straight.

 

it was nice to work out in the countryside for a change instead of pushing spanners, i loved driving the 4wd kubota little truck jim let us drive the wood back to the cars with...i really had a fun day out.

 

jim also let us fell a few smaller trees that where growing across the track through the woods, so i felled my first tree ... it fell exactly where i planned

Nice one bud, think it may just be a case of empty tank leaning the saw out then, you should get the stihl picco super chain for your saw, it'll cut even better

Full chisel chain, faster, more aggressive, but less stress on the saw

Good orthopaedic shoes will do that for you every time I wish I could cultivate some friends with a wood that needs looking after sometimes.

the guy has also put me onto another job on sunday, clearing away a black ash trunk from a local garden.

more wind damage.

apparently this blackash trunk is 9 foot long and 3 foot wide.

 

more fuel for me.. i like that kind if i get too much i will post up on here for sure..

Don't call it a job chris, us weekend warriors only do it for the wood Personally I just like playing with chainsaws and axes, the firewood is a happy coincidence.
