I would think in the more extreme cases these beeches being rippled to such a degree is more than possibly heart decay, P. squamosus, pholiota aurivella, Inonotus cuticularis can all help create the extra load on the outer functional sapwood

Thanks Tony. How do you investigate this? Take a ring sample and look for a squiffy middle? Tap it around the trunk to see if it's hollow?

Great post Dalton trees by the way.

I thought it was fair comment, but I apologise now for killing the thread stone dead.

Jules, its not only just comments that are the measure of how alive a thread is or not.

Look at the views in your 'valuation' thread.

The views of this thread are now at over 7OO and no doubt will keep slowly increasing.

I'm sure a good number of people have taken something from the thread and may yet still in the future.

You really shouldn't get so despondant when you don't get an imeadiate response to your posts.

Have some patiences my dear fellow

I've been known to wait months and on one occasion 'a couple of years' for a response to a particular thread :001_rolleyes:

It's OK, I amn't troubled, I usually research my contributions to Arbtalk obsessively, but sometimes I think I don't leave a lot of scope for other people to contribute. That's what I was apologising for.

I am on the lookout for pictures that illustrate the subject, hasta la vista. Much more interesting for the average Arb than my dictionarytalk.
