Cordwood/Roundwood Sales Advice

Hi All,

I am in the process of setting up a couple of agreements with landowners to manage thier woodlands in Essex/London. I am going to be taking the timber as part-payment some of which I will process and sell as firewood myself, but I will be felling/extracting much more than I need, so will need to sell as roundwood (or cordwood depeding on which term you prefer!).

At the end of this winter I estimate I will have around 100t spare, maybe more, and it will be decent hardwoods: Ash,Oak, Hornbeam, Sycamore, Hazel, Maple etc of various diameters.

I wanted to check what is the best length to crosscut it to in order to sell it wholesale and fit it onto a timber lorry?

I would have thought it would be best to offer a "delivered" price, so can anyone recommend a haulage firm to move it for me, and what sort of cost am I looking at for this?

Thanks guys! Matt

Would be interested in all you have.. Not far from you either..

I'd prefer it in 10 ft lengths or bigger. But not smaller.. 10's preferably..

Thanks Nick, would you collect or would you need it delivered?

Still early days yet, I am just sorting the contracts with the landowners, but good to see the demand is out there!! Will contact anyone interested once I start getting things road side.

I spoke to a haulage firm today also said 10ft is ideal for their lorry so looks like 10ft is what I'll be cutting it to!

Took delivery of a shiny new 560xpg today so keen to get out there now and start felling!

Thanks all,

Matt
