MS240 has to go, but what to replace it with?

I have a fairly good MS240 stihl which I have started to dislike for some reason. Id just doesn't feel comfortable or handy. I would like to change it to something of similar value. I suppose Im limited to £200 to £250. I dont need big power or reach but something that will stick abuse. Im currently felling 2 1/2 acres of mixed hardwood mostly oak and beech and need something for snedding and felling the smaller stuff.

I used to have a 345 husky which I really liked and would like possibly to get another. Ive had almost every model of small stihl and found none of them overly impressive apart from my old 020av super. I am thinking of making the change to husky, so what used sub 45cc saw could I get for £250

Between you and me, you really dont want it. You will find a little detail about it in my post on this page http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/33857-whats-your-bench-today-330.html#post871606 It was rebuilt at the time and has worked very well since but I used a copy cylinder and meteor piston. I think it will be one for the bay. Whats your thoughts on the equivalent Husky?

If you like the 345, as I do as it was my first proper saw, the ones to look for are 345 & 350 in the home owner/semi pro range or the 346XP from the pro range.

The 346XP feels just like the 345 but is more solid having alloy crankcases and a typical Husqvarna pro build plus it will pull harder in the cut.

Earlier models were 45cc and can be seen by their orange clutch cover, later models were nicknamed "Silverside" and had a 50cc engine with a silver clutch cover.

They are pretty reliable saws but make sure that the piston and pot are original when you buy one.

Cheers spud. Im assuming that the 345 and 350 use the same chassis so weight should be almost the same therefore the 50cc would make more sense. I also see a 351, is this just a newer version of the same?

The 351 shared the top end with the 350, but it was a higher quality saw that shared the case etc with the 346xp, not with the "homeowner class" 350/345/340.

The 351 was replaced by the 353 in 2002.

346xp good wee saw, well I like mine anyway but im sure everyone will have their own recommendation :001_tt2:

Many still regard the 346xp as the best 50cc saw ever made, despite it has been discontinued.

The only true alternative is the 550xp, that has replaced the 346.

I see no reason to replace my 50cc 346xp with a 550 though.
