Which brushcutter for brambles?

I agree with what's been said having been handed a brush cutter at work to clear brambles, its really not very effective! Found the pole hedge cutter with the head angled a much better tool to use! Still end up with the brambles tripping you up and wrapped round your legs though.

That's why you use a mulching blade, it shreds them. If your employer doesn't have one then he's in the countryside maintenance dark ages.

For the OP, if it's just got to be done once then why not hire a walk behind flail for a weekend?

I fell in with an old but good condition brushcutter/ strimmer today. It an Echo srm402. Seems robust and powerfull and should do my job. Think its just over 40cc. It only cost £40 so no big loss if it doesnt. I need to order a mulching blade now but unsure of size or supplier.

Stihl FS400 or bigger and get the twin wing mulching blade, also stihl.

Cleared miles and miles of footpaths and railway banks.

Must be the twin bladed end with the little down turned wings on the end.

Use it with an up and down motion, rather than the side by side you'd use with strimmer wire
