help please our old faithful 281 has pegged it ,there doesnt seem to be any fuel in the carb the fuel filter is definatley ok i have stripped the carb and all seems to be ok any pointers please

Which part of the carb has no fuel in it, the pumping part or the diaphragm part or both?

If it is both - impulse, tank vent holed or kinked fuel line

If it is the diaphragm cavity- stuck needle valve, plugged gauze filter or dodgy diaphragm

Good luck

diaphragm part i have ordered a carb kit thanks for replys it has a pain to start as well for a while could this point towards the same problem

Well that means it is a blocked gauze filter, a stuck needle valve or more likely, the metering arm needs lifting a tad.

It is possible the diaphragm is damaged but the gauze filter or metering arm height are the most likely causes.

Note that the metering arm will still need adjusting when fitting a new one.
