Now I done a search, and not found what I was looking for

 

Which softwood/s are good burners (DRY is taken for granted )

Which ones don't spit and pop and burn well.

At the moment I've got 90% hardwood, but quite happy with soft as long as if I want the doors open on the fire,I don't get spat at, and it sounds like the Somme

Western Red Cedar sorry. Some people diss Douglas Fir but very dry is great imo; I think larch is the most reliable tho overall

need to be dry but yew and leylandii are great in my opinion...

 

just burnt some deodar cedar and was great stuff to start it off.

Got about 1/2 m3 of Douglas, that wont be burnt until next year, over half way along my log stores

heat output, there was a FC chart on Wilsons or Caledonian forestry showing that the six hottest burning timbers in the UK were all softwoods. Pine is used by Morso to temperature test their stoves.
