Thanks, just looked a little different and fancied finding out what it was.

Check the tree for acorns . leaf should go a lovely deep red before it drops ....

That sounds like the Scarlet Oak ("deep red") Q. coccinea, Red Oak Q. rubra just tends to go red/brown...in my experience.

 

Reckon the leaf could be either.

Coccinea is generally a much more angular serration and smaller leaf.

Problem with a single leaf is that vigorous growth can produce massive leaves even in sessile oak, but my money's on Rubra.
